When all knew Babe Ruth as the babe but his real name was George Herman Ruth Jr. He was born on February 6, 1895 in the town of Baltimore Maryland (Family of Babe Ruth, 2011). His parent George and Kate had seven other children including the Babe. George was a trouble young child and at the age of seven his parents sent him St.Mary's Industrial School for boys at this school this is where his love and passion grew for the game, baseball. Brother Matthias, one of the monks that taught George took great interest in him and he became Georges role model later in life. As Brother Matthias took greater interest in him and worked with him to become a better played. As Babes skills grew the major league team for Baltimore scheduled a private showcase of his talent the owner Jack Dunn was so impressed that he offered him a contract to play for the team but in order for him to join the team Jack Dunn had to become his legal guardian. The Babe agreed to have Jack Dunn become his legal guardian and the babe was then drafted into the minor league team for Baltimore. As the season started he was off to a great start and that continued throughout the whole year. At the beginning of the next season Babe got a call from the owner saying he was recruited up to the big leagues to play for the Boston Red Sox. Babe played great on the team but due to the full roster he was cut from the team and was dropped back down to the major leagues were he had to start back from the bottom. Little did he know that in the 1919 season he would be traded from the Red Soxs to the best major league team the New York Yankees and the two teams were never the same again. After becoming a Yankee his transition to a full-time outfielder would be complete. Babe changed the game completely the game went from grind it out style to one power hit and high scoring games. The Babe bested the home run record he set 1919, but he didn't know that he would beat that record twice. His season in 1921 has been the greatest in MLB history(Family of Babe Ruth,2011). That season he hit a new record of 59 home runs and drove in 171 RBI's, scored 177 runs(Family of Babe Ruth, 2011). After the new stadium was built the called it "The House That Ruth Built"(Family of Babe Ruth,2011). He beat his record for the second time by one which brought him up to 60 home runs, 34 years later his records still stood. The Babe by most was thought to be the greatest baseball player in history. In 1936 he was elected into the hall of fame. As he grew old in 1946 his doctors found a cancerous tumor in his neck and that ended up killing him on August 6, 1948. Today some people think that he is still the best baseball player in the world and he changed the game forever.
